It goes without saying that I’ve learnt a great deal about skin over the years, but even so, I’ve never felt expert enough in beauty therapy to be able to give a professional facial.
I’ve decided I’m overdue to change that, and it feels like the right time to do this, for a number of reasons.
With the development of evolu, we are fortunate enough to now be in some of the most luxurious spas in New Zealand, where I’ve trained spa therapists in using evolu. This spurred me to investigate beauty therapy courses…but I just found it too difficult to fit into my schedule.
Recently however two things happened to help me solve this problem. One was that we became the skincare range being used by the beauty therapy trainers at Evolution School of Holistic Therapies. The second was a knee injury – I tore my anterior cruciate ligament playing tennis.
Strange how things coincide, and nothing like an accident to get you thinking!
During the recuperation phase I found out I’d need to have a knee reconstruction. I knew there’d be a certain amount of time I’d need to be off work, and not being one for wasting time it occurred to me this would be an ideal time for me to study!
So, now I’m a student at the Evolution School of Holistic Therapies and will soon have my diploma. I’m performing facials and am loving it. I even managed to slip one in at 6am last week for a willing client who was happy to come before she went to work. I’m not sure who was the more committed!
I’ve now set up the evolu ‘facial studio’, and it’s a very inviting, peaceful environment. I get such a kick out of working with my clients in this sanctuary, especially as it looks out onto the evolu balcony garden.
When I begin the treatment, I spend time with my client finding out about their health background and skincare routines.
One of the things I’ve discovered is the number of women and men who have either never or hardly ever had a facial. And for several different reasons too; they don’t know why they should have one, they feel threatened by the environment, concerned about what’s going to happen, they’re time-poor, or conscious of spending unnecessarily. All understandable.
However, having a professional examine your skin and suggest ways in which you could make better use of your products and get better results is an excellent investment. Plus, relaxation and massage do wonders for your whole being, let alone your skin…and to have someone to ask questions is a great help.
What’s extra cool is that we can also use the studio space to shoot videos of therapy and product demonstrations. We’ll be posting these online, so keep an eye out for them, here on our blogzine, and on our Facebook page.
I feel honoured to have had so many offers from people to come and be my ‘models’, and to have had each and every one give such positive feedback. I wish I had taken ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots – not just to show off the wonderful effects of evolu, but to show how relaxed, calm and happy my clients look.
Oh – and I haven’t even had the knee operation yet!
